To coincide with the R-Series launch, we commissioned acclaimed Glasgow photographer Susan Castillo to create a series of images shot on location at the city’s Govanhill Baths. The concept was an abstract take on rain hitting the umbrella canopies - with the help of 1,000 black table tennis balls. Quite a unique effect.
The R-Series umbrella can be purchased here.
The baths are housed in a Category B listed Edwardian building with a tumultuous history. After being deemed by the council too costly to run or refurbish the baths were closed in 2001. What followed was an 18 year community-led campaign to restore the baths to their former glory, this included a 140 day occupation in protest at the closure (the longest occupation of a public building in British history). In March 2019 funding was successfully secured with ground work for a £7m renovation starting later this year.
We’re proud to support the efforts to re-open an important social project in our home city.
